THE BIG MATCH:
Ohio at Dayton – 8 pm ET (Spectrum Sports)
A couple of mid-major 2016 NCAA Tournament teams meet in Dayton, Ohio for an early season victory.
Ohio is off to a 3-0 start after they went 25-8 in 2016 and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament. They even took a set from BYU in the first round and will look to get revenge on the Flyers after they lost in straight sets at the end of the 2016 regular season.
Dayton didn’t have quite the opening weekend, after falling to Cal Poly to fall out of the receiving votes portion in the VolleyMob Top 25, but they still went 2-1 as they look to get rolling and try and match last season’s incredible 30-2 record.
OTHER NOTABLE MATCHES:
Miami (OH) at Xavier – 7 pm ET
An underrated rivalry in the state of Ohio occurs between Miami (OH) and Xavier tonight. The host team is off to a 3-0 start as they’re looking to improve on a 20-win season in 2016. Miami (OH) dropped one match in their opening week, but it came to a receiving votes (and now ranked) team in Western Kentucky. They also made the NCAA Tournament in 2016 after going 24-7 and took a set from Oregon.
Alabama State at Auburn – 8 pm ET (SEC Network+)
Alabama State is off to a 2-0 start as they return from 2016 when they went 24-9 en route to an NCAA Tournament appearance. They take on an Auburn team that went 15-16 last season, but is off to a solid start after they went 2-1 in the opening weekend with the Tigers only loss coming to a ranked Michigan State team.
Northern Colorado at Colorado State – 9 pm ET (MW Network)
Two teams look to stake a claim for the best team in the state of Colorado as these two meet in Fort Collins. The host team, Colorado State, rode a 21-9 season to an NCAA Tournament in 2016 and are receiving votes in the latest AVCA Poll. Northern Colorado went 18-11 last season but are off to an 0-2 start, something they will try to correct vs. the Rams.
