Peruvian Runner-Ups Secure Angela Leyva & American For 2017-18 Season

The Peruvian women’s championship Liga Nacional Superior de Voleibol runner-ups Universidad San Martin de Porres have completed their roster with the addition of American outside hitter, Allison Mayfield and secured the resigning of Angela Leyva.

Mayfield played for the University of Kansas from 2008-11, posting 1,282 kills with an average of 3.21 kills per set. In her senior season, Mayfield posted 462 kills, the most by a KU player at the time and 4.16 kills per set. In addition, Mayfield also picked up 735 digs in her career and 146 blocks. Her senior season brought her an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention nod.

Prior to heading to the South American club, Mayfield played with HPK Hameenlinna, with whom she took part in the CEV Champions League last season.

In addition to Mayfield, the squad also securing Angela Leyva, a native of Peru who has played for the club for the past six seasons. Leyva was the best scorer in the 2016-17 championship and was offered contracts with larger clubs in Europe, which she rejected.

Leyva recently played with the Peruvian national team at the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix where she was a consistent top scorer for the squad. Peru struggled overall, posting a 3-6 record to end up in ninth place in the competition.
