Cuba’s Orlando Samuels has been hired as the new Dominican Republic technical director of the men’s program and head coach of the senior team.

Samuels previously coached Cuba’s men’s team to a gold medal at the 1989 FIVB Volleyball World Cup and earned silver at the FIVB Volleyball World Championships in both 1990 and 2010. In addition, Samuel’s teams have also claimed four NORCECA Championships – 1991 Pan American Games and the 1986 Central American and Caribbean Games.

The Dominican Republic is the reigning champion of the Central American and Caribbean Games. They took the gold in Veracruz, Mexico in 2014.

Samuels works hard for his teams and expects the same things back from them, it is the driving force behind their success. He is looking ahead to the Pan American Games, the World League and the Olympic Games – but they will have to put in some hard work to achieve their goals.

The schedule for the men’s squad includes the Pan American Cup in Canada from July 23-31 and the NORCECA Continental Championship in Colorado, USA from September 24 to October 2.
