Palmer & Bell Fight To Take SA Open In Three Set Match

Women’s pair Becchara Palmer and Phoebe Bell took down tournament favorites Louise Bawden and Nikki Laird in three sets to win the South Australia Open at Adelaide’s Glanelg Beach.

The pair played to together at the 2012 London Olympic Games, while Bawden and Laird competed at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, with different partners. Palmer and Bell began the match strong in the first set, before Bawden and Laird fought back to tie up the set at 1-1. The tie break was a hard fought battle, but Palmer and Bell prevailed to take the match 2-1, 21-14, 19-21, 16-14.

Taking the bronze medal at the event for the women was Christie Jenkins and Katie Bartoli in a 2-1 decision, 21-18, 17-21, 15-13, over Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Thailand’s Yupa Phokongploy.

On the men’s side, Casey Grice and Bart Bolserlee defeated Cole Durant and Zachery Schubert in straight sets 2-0, 21-18, 24-22. Winning bronze was Joshua Court and Damien Schumann over Kusti Nolvak and Mart Tisaar 2-0, 21-18, 21-19.
