Penn State to Play Defending Champions Stanford Twice in 2017

The Penn State Nittany Lions have released their schedule for the upcoming NCAA season.

Prior to conference season, they will go on a big road trip, attending three tourneys away. They head to Morgantown, WV for the West Virginia Tournament, featuring WVU, Tennessee-Martin, and Delaware on Aug. 25th, then turning southwest and facing Texas A&M and defending national champions Stanford in College Station, TX. John Dunning resigned from the helm of the Stanford program earlier in 2017, so Penn State‘s match-up with the Cardinal will be one of the first times Stanford will play under new coach Kevin Hambly.

The Nittany Lions will prepare for a second battle against the Cardinal, as they’ll face Stanford and Colorado at the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge in Champaign, IL on Sept. 8th and 9th. They’ll bring it home the following weekend to take on Yale, Ohio, and Wake Forest

Though playing Stanford twice will be tough for PSU, they will only have to face Minnesota and Nebraska one time each during the regular season. Both B1G opponents made the NCAA final four last year. Among double dips this year will be Michigan State and Wisconsin, both teams ranked in the top 20 nationally per the August 9th AVCA poll, so there will be plenty of close matches for the Nittany Lions this year.

Penn State returns a lot of talent from last year, most notably OH Simone Lee and MB Haleigh Washington, both players having been named to the 2016 First Team All-Big Ten. After finishing 24-10 overall and 14-6 in conference play in 2016, Penn State will look to finish higher than 4th, as well as avenge their two losses to Nebraska last season.
