After a lackluster 1-2 start to the 2018 season, Pepperdine got a huge spark this week with the return of 2017 All-MPSF First-Team outside hitter David Wieczorek to the starting lineup. In his return, the Waves won a pair of matches across the country to move up from 15 to 14 in the latest VolleyMob Top 20 Power Rankings.

A 6’8″ outside hitter from Chicago, Illinois, Wieczorek appeared in every set the Waves appeared in last week and is now the team’s leader in kills per set (4.14). He’s also doing so at a .471 mark to pair with 0.86 digs per set, 0.43 blocks per set and 0.29 aces per set. That comes after the junior missed the first three matches of the season.

The two victories for Pepperdine came on the road against now 19th-ranked George Mason in sweep fashion and on a neutral court in Virginia over then #20 and now (RV) Ball State. In total, they won six of the seven sets they played in.

Wieczorek came to Pepperdine in 2015 and redshirted in his first season. In 2016 as a redshirt freshman he was named to the All-MPSF Second Team as well as the freshman team. In year two last year he added to his award list with an appeared on the MPSF First Team in addition to earning AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honors.

The week ahead for Pepperdine features just one opponent as they will host (RV) Princeton for a day match on Saturday, February 3.
