Tatiana Kosheleva, one of the world’s top outside hitters, has not renewed her contract with Turkish club Eczacibasi and Italian side Imoco Volley is very interested in acquiring her services, according to Italian media.
Kosheleva was named the best outside hitter of the 2016 FIVB Club World Championships and the Most Valuable Player of both the 2013 and 2015 European Championships while representing her home country of Russia. After winning last year’s Club Worlds, the team placed just 4th this year after losing to Volero Zurich twice: once in pool play, and once in the bronze medal match. That bronze medal match wound up being Kosheleva’s last with the team, and she finished with 10 kills in 5 sets: second on her team only to Tijana Boskovic, but with an equally efficient rate (just 1 error in 22 swings).
Kosheleva, who stands 1.91m (6’3″) tall, was actually born in Belarus in 1988, before the fall of the Soviet Union, but wound up with Russian citizenship after its dissolution. She’s been a member of the Russian National Team since 2007, when she was only 18 years old, and was on the squad when they won the World Championship in 2010.
Prior to spending last season with Eczacibasi, she spent most of her career playing for teams in Russia:
- Russia Dinamo Moscow (2004–2007)
- Russia Zarechie Odintsovo (2007–2010)
- Russia Dinamo Kazan (2010–2011)
- Russia Dinamo Krasnodar (2011–2012)
- Russia Dinamo Kazan (2012–2012)
