Closing out its nonconference road matchups, the Rutgers volleyball team travels to Temple for the Hilton Penn’s Landing Cherry & White Challenge from Sept. 9-10. The Scarlet Knights are set to cross paths with two conference champions and NCAA qualifiers from a year ago in New Hampshire and Cleveland State, along with host Temple.

RU’S LAST TIME OUT
Rutgers (4-3, 0-0 Big Ten) opened its weekend at the Yale Invitational with a four-set win over Iona on Friday. The following day the Scarlet Knights were topped in three sets by Albany before falling short in a five-set rally against host Yale.
Fifth-year senior Mikaela Matthews was named to the all-tournament team after posting a team-high .605 hitting percentage across the three games. Matthews also posted 1.25 blocks per set for a total of 15 on the weekend. Freshman Jasmine Stackhouse has posted at least five blocks for four consecutive matches. The freshman leads the team with 1.48 blocks per set and a total of 34 blocks on the season.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
New Hampshire (3-4, 0-0 America East) entered the year as the three-time reigning America East Conference champions. In week two of 2016, UNH picked up wins over Siena and Boston College at the Beantown Challenge. The Wildcats then fell to Bryant on Tuesday night, a team that Rutgers swept week one of the season. Emily Tanski leads the squad with 2.73 kills per set, while adding 3.04 digs per stanza. Keelin Severtson was named America East Setter of the Week and is averaging 9.77 assists per set this season.
Rutgers leads the series 6-1 over New Hampshire. The Scarlet Knights have won six straight matchups, most recently taking a 3-0 victory in 2012.
SCOUTING CLEVELAND STATE
Cleveland State (4-2, 0-0 Horizon Leauge) earned the CSU Invitational Title over the weekend. The Vikings racked up victories over Eastern Michigan and Tennessee while suffering a loss to Boise State. Grace Kauth was named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 3.50 kills per set and a total of 42 kills over the weekend. Kauth leads the team with 3.91 kills per set and 3.64 digs per set on the season.CSU is the reigning Horizon League Tournament champions.
Rutgers and Cleveland State have met once before in a match dating back to 1984. The Vikings own a 3-0 win in that meeting.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
Temple (2-2, 0-0 American) dropped two matches in its last outing at the Puetro Rico Clasico, falling to Virginia Tech and Alabama. The Owls opened the season with victories over North Arizona and Hampton. Izzy Rapacz paces the team with kills per set (3.62) and blocks per set (1.38), while Kyra Coundourides leads the way with 11.3 assists per stanza.
Rutgers trails Temple, 33-24, in the all-time series. The teams last split two matchups in 2013, when TU took the first, 3-0, and RU the second, 3-1.
