SAB Volley Legnano in Italy has parted ways with their second American player in a matter of a week as they have terminated their contract with Sonja Newcombe.

Just last week the club ended their contract with USA’s Annie Drews who is setting out to find another club following her termination with SAB Volley. Drews had her breakout summer in the volleyball scene after being called up to the U.S. National Team during the 2017 World Grand Prix Final Six.

It has been rumored that the club is facing financial instability resulting in them being unable to pay players for months at a time.

Newcombe will head back to the United States immediately following the termination of the contract. Newcombe is a 2009 graduate of Oregon and since then has played with a number of clubs but has not stretched out the playing time past one season with any of them. SAB Volley is no different as she parts ways just two months into the season.

Right now in the Italian women’s league, SAB Volley sits in 8th place, right on the cusp of not making the playoffs come time with a 4-6 record on the year.
