Sarah Pavan was once an all-star indoor collegiate volleyball player with the University of Nebraska along with a number of clubs following her collegiate career. Since then, Pavan has focused more on the beach side of her volleyball career, which she has had much success with over the past two or three years.

In June 2017, Pavan signed a contract with Pomi Casalmaggiore in Italy for the 2017-18 season. The club has had a less ideal start to the year, accumulating a 2-9 record on the year so far for 10th place in the league. This comes as a surprise considering the team finished in second place in the league last season and have had strong players continue with the team. This has led to the President of the club withholding the players pay to potentially spark a change in the teams play.

Pavan has decided to part ways with the club to focus on beach volleyball, as the 2018 FIVB World Tour season is set to really begin with a tournament in the Hague at the beginning of January.

Pavan has had a lot of success on the beach, as she finished in fifth place at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games with then partner Heather Bansley. In 2017, Pavan found success again with new partner Melissa Humana-Paredes as they were consistent top-finishers in big World Tour competitions, even winning the Porec Major.
