Serbian standout Nikola Kovacevic has dissolved his contract with German side Berlin Recycling Volleys, terminating an agreement that was set to run through the end of the 2016/2017 Champions League season. He has now landed in Iran with the club Paykan Tehran. The outside hitter spent less than a season in Germany after transferring from Russian club Lokomotiv Novosibirsk.
“We have mutually agreed that it just wasn’t a good fit,” BR manager Kaweh Miroomand told volleyball.it of the move.
The dissolution is the conclusion of a tenuous relationship with the Berlin side, which has been critical of the 33-year old’s conditioning.
The club did not announce another addition to replace him before the end of the January transfer window, which leaves a challenge for the club that was a 2016 triple champion – winning the German Cup and the German Bundesliga title.
Koracevic played on Serbia’s team that took bronze at the 2010 World Championships and won the 2011 European Championship – where he was named the best receiver. Hewas not selected for the Serbian team that played in the 2016 FIVB World League, though his brother Uros was.
Paykan Tehran is considered the most successful club in Iran history, including 12 league titles and a record 7 Asian Club Championships.
