SIUE’s Taylor Joens Named Division I AVCA Player Of The Week

The AVCA has announced SIUE’s Taylor Joens as this week’s AVCA Division I Player of the Week, after helping her team to 3-0 weekend at the Cougar Invite Presented by DoubleTree Hotels.

Joens played in a total of 11 sets this weekend, where she averaged 3.36 kills per set on a .537 hitting clip. Additionally, Joens picked up 1.73 digs and 1.55 blocks per set. In total, Joens put down 37 kills with one error on 67 swings.This was enough to help Joens to her second consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor.

To begin the weekend, Joens helped lead the Cougars to a four-set win over Seattle with 10 kills on a .435 hitting percentage while also adding nine blocks into the mix. Against Montana, Joens slammed down 18 kills on a .562 hitting clip and closed out the weekend with nine kills on a .667 hitting performance in the team’s sweep over UIC.

Now, Joens holds a season hitting efficiency of .399, which leads all Ohio Vally Conference hitters and ranks her 36th nationally in hitting percentage among NCAA Division I programs.
