Two teams walked away from the 2017 USA Volleyball Open National Championships with Open Division titles, while the sitting volleyball tournament concluded as well.
At the Open Nationals tournament, the Open Division is the highest level of competition held that includes skill levels and master’s age division for both the men’s and women’s sides. The Open Division is also the only division to play a best-of-five scenario throughout the tournament.
There are still 12 divisions left to conclude their play at the tournament, with the winners being determined May 31.
Men’s Open
- SoCal Avalanche (Southern California)
- Team Pineapple (Hoosier)
- Volleyball Academy America (Northern California)
The SoCal Avalanche team was able to sweep Team Pineapple 3-0, (25-20, 25-22, 26-24) in a tough match to claim the title. The SoCal team ended the tournament with a 7-2 record, starting with a 1-2 start in the tournament. The silver medalists finished with a 6-2 record.

Women’s Open
- Hoosier Exterminators (Hoosier)
- Team Iowa Ice (Iowa)
- Team GEVA (Garden Empire)
The Hoosier Exterminators were able to fight their way back through the losers bracket to take down Team Iowa Ice in the finals match 3-1, (25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17), forcing a golden set. In the deciding set of the women’s open division bracket, the Hoosier’s were able to rally to a 25-20 victory over the Iowa squad.

Sitting Division
- The Eh Team (Canada)
- Florida All-Stars (Florida)
- Nebraska High Rollers (Great Plains)
The sitting division of the tournament featured just 10 teams. The Eh Team from Canada were able to take down Team Florida All-Stars in a two-set sweep 2-0, (25-20, 25-15). Throughout the duration of the tournament, The Eh Team went undefeated, with an even more impressive feat of not dropping a single set in the competition.
