Former University of Houston Volleyball setter Sophie Paine has been named to the Australian Women’s Indoor Volleyball National Team for a second consecutive year.
“Like last year, this is a great opportunity for Sophie to represent not only Houston on the national stage but her home country in Australia,” Head Coach Kaddie Platt said. “This honor shows all the hard work she has put forth across her career. When she was here, she was basically a coach among players for us. She has great leadership skills, and we couldn’t be happier for her.”
Paine, a three-year letterwinner for the Cougars from 2013-15, also competed for the Aussie National Team, better know as the Helloworld Volleyroos, in the summer of 2016.
With Houston, she appeared in 226 sets across 73 matches. For her career, Paine totaled 1,518 assists, 280 digs, 32 combined blocks (31 assisted, 1 solo) and 29 kills.
The Volleyroos are slated to play in three tournaments in the upcoming months. The squad will open with the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix, playing in Group 3. The preliminary rounds for the group will be played July 7-9(Aguascalientesm, Mexico) and July 13-16 (Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) with finals taking place July 22-23 in Canberra, Australia.
