Top 10 Stunner: #2 Stanford Sweeps Past #9 USC

#2 Stanford def. #9 USC 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-15)

In a Top 10 matchup, 2nd-ranked Stanford bested 9th-ranked USC in straight sets. The Cardinal, which has now won 9 matches in a row, remains undefeated in Pac-12 action and owns a 5-match win streak against the Trojans.

A .396 attack percentage and a 13 to 5 blocking advantage keyed the win for Stanford. USC committed 25 errors and hit .158 in the loss.

In the opening set, the Cardinal used a dominant .407 attack percentage to earn the 25-21 victory. It was a tight set early before Stanford used a 4-0 push to break a string of 12 ties and go up 1-0.

It was another battle for the second set as teams fought through 11 tie scores. After falling behind the Trojans 22-20, the Cardinal rallied for the 25-22 victory with a 5-0 closing run.

Stanford carried the momentum into the third set, going up 6-1 early. The Cardinal went on to lead by as much as 12 and eventually claimed the sweep with a 25-15 win.

Kathryn Plummer (18 kills, .379 attack percentage) and Meghan McClure (16 points, .619 attack percentage) paced the Cardinal offensively. Jenna Gray orchestrated the offense, dishing out 44 assists, while Morgan Hentz led the defense with 18 digs.

Brooke Botkin, Khalia Lanier and Emily Baptista all posted 9 kills for USC. Raquel Lazaro dished out 27 assists and Victoria Garrick logged 12 digs.
