Burcescu comes to Tulane from New York, where she attended Walter Panas High School in Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. At Walter Panas, Burcescu was a five-year volleyball letter winner, ranking as her high school’s all-time leader in kills with 2,670 and earning First Team All-State honors the past three seasons.
Burcescu was named the Gatorade New York Volleyball Player of the Year for her 2016 season, in which she recorded 663 kills, 125 service aces and 103 blocks and led her team to its first state championship. An explosive and athletic hitter, Burcescu played club at Downstate Juniors and is interested in studying biomedical engineering.
Barnes on Burcescu
“She is one of the most highly decorated players to ever come out of the state of New York. At 6-2, Yvette will be one of the most physical hitters in The American. She plays higher than most players in the league and has great skills to complement her athleticism. An important advantage for our team is she’ll be graduating high school this January and will start at Tulane in the spring semester, so she will be able to train all spring and make an impact this season. Yvette is very disciplined in academics and will bring a strong work ethic to our gym. Big things coming from Yvette.”
