Tulane beach volleyball will head to Miami, Florida for a five-dual slate at this weekend’s FIU Surf & Turf Invitational, eclipsing the halfway point of the 2017 beach season. In the Sunshine State, the Green Wave will face four opponents that rank in the top 15 nationally and two conference foes.
ABOUT THE FIU SURF & TURF INVITATIONAL
Tulane will enter the weekend on a two-game winning streak after going 3-1 at last week’s College of Charleston Beach Classic.
The Green Wave open up their stay in Miami bright and early on Friday morning, meeting No. 4 Florida State (11-5, 3-0 CCSA) for the first time this season. The teams last met on Seminole turf at the 2016 Florida State Beach Volleyball Tournament, as the Green Wave dropped the dual 0-5 to give Florida State its seventh win in series history.
Day one will wrap up with a noon contest against a 7-7 Arizona State squad that currently sits at No. 12 in the AVCA poll. The Green Wave have not matched up with the Sun Devils since 2015, a dual that Tulane took on a 3-2 decision to take a 2-1 all-time series lead.
Tulane will have another early start on Saturday, opening day two in Miami with an 8:00 a.m. rematch against No. 15 FIU. The Green Wave last faced the Panthers (13-6, 5-2 CCSA) at a neutral site, both playing at LSU’s Tiger Beach Challenge just two weeks ago. Tulane dropped the dual 1-4 in Baton Rouge and is 1-1 against FIU in Miami.
The UNO Privateers (5-7) will be Tulane’s fourth opponent of the weekend with an 11:00 a.m. match-up on Saturday, the first of two meetings between the two teams this season. The Green Wave are undefeated against their crosstown rivals and rolled over the Privateers in straight sets at last year’s Tulane Pelican Classic.
The Green Wave conclude their trip to Miami taking on No. 3 UCLA (13-2) in an afternoon contest set for 2:00 p.m.
