UCLA Bruins sophomore middle blocker Madeleine Gates is battling an injury that kept her out of the team’s last match against Cal. At the moment, it is unclear whether she will be able to play in the team’s next match coming on Friday.
The injury was reported by the Daily Bruin, noting that Gates missed UCLA’s last match – a sweep of Cal – due to an abdominal injury. Gates did appear in the match before – a four set loss to Stanford – and logged seven kills and five blocks for the evening.
In total for the season, the 6’3″ native of San Diego is fourth on the Bruins in kills per set (2.56) while rankings second on the team in blocks per set (1.25) and hitting percentage (.324). This comes in her second year after notching over a kill per set in 12 matches of action as a freshman in 2016. She also caught some publicity recently when she dunked a volleyball on a basketball hoop.
