UCLA’s Daenan Gyimah Proves Hard To Beat On The Volleyball Court

Being a freshman can be hard, as you are entering into a new program, a new school and a new lifestyle – however, when you are 6′ 8″, like freshman middle blocker Daenan Gyimah is, it isn’t too hard to find your place on the court.

Along with being a tall presence on the court, Gyimah has a 40 inch vertical that helps to propel him to constant success on the volleyball court. So far in his short career, Gyimah has played in every match of the 2017 season having put down 111 kills on a .479 hitting percentage, averaging 2.52 kills per set. Additionally, he has blocked 43 balls this season for an average of .98 blocks per set. Gyimah’s top offensive performance came against UC Irvine, where he slammed down 14 kills on a .737 hitting percentage, producing zero errors.

Gyimah played both volleyball and basketball in high school, being a top athlete in both – named as MVP for his team in each. He often wonders where he would be if he had chosen basketball over volleyball.

In his club career, Gyimah played in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada for the STVC Nemesis Volleyball Club, where he was named as a Canadian All-Star. His team placed third in the province and fifth in the country.

On top of his volleyball talents, Gyimah produces music as Kofi Kid, having racked up nearly 17,000 plays on Soundcloud. Gyimah has produced for some of Toronto’s biggest non-mainstream musicians. In the video, below, his song is the one being played.
