he first-time recipients of the men’s volleyball weekly awards hail from UC San Diego, UC Irvine and Long Beach State.
TANNER SYFTESTAD, UC SAN DIEGO – PLAYER OF THE WEEK

➜ UC San Diego senior Tanner Syftestad posted 20-plus kills in consecutive matches to earn the first Big West Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week award in conference history.
➜ Syftestad averaged 5.44 kills, 1.33 digs and 1.00 blocks per set in a five-set win over McKendree and a four-set triumph over King (Tenn.). He hit .361 (49-14-97) at UCLA’s Wooden Classic Tournament.
➜ The 6-8 opposite tallied 27 kills on .365 hitting against McKendree. Eleven of those kills came in the third set when the Tritons went up 2-1 in the match. He added five digs, five blocks, two assists and two aces.
➜ In the King match, he registered 22 kills on .356 hitting, to go along with seven digs, four blocks, two aces and an assist.
➜ The three-time team captain has the Tritons out to a 2-0 start for the first time since 1996.

SCOTT STADICK, UC IRVINE – DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

➜ UC Irvine sophomore Scott Stadick is the first recipient of Big West Men’s Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week honors after stellar play at the net in two victories.
➜ The 7-foot middle blocker locked down the net with 1.57 blocks per set in wins over No. 6 Lewis and No. 13 Loyola-Chicago at Provo, Utah.
➜ He recorded five total blocks (one solo) against Lewis then had six (one solo) versus Loyola Chicago.
➜ Stadick also contributed offensively with eight kills in each match while hitting .351 (16-3-37) in the two triumphs.

SIMON ANDERSON, LONG BEACH STATE – FRESHMAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK

➜ Long Beach State middle blocker Simon Anderson earned the first Big West Men’s Volleyball Freshman Player of the Week award as he helped the team to a 4-0 start.
➜ Anderson averaged 2.00 kills and 0.85 blocks per set as the Beach lost just one set in victories over McKendree, Princeton, NJIT and Saint Francis (PA).
➜ In his collegiate debut, he had six kills and four blocks while swinging at a .545 (6-0-11) clip.
➜ Anderson notched 20 total kills with two digs and seven blocks in three matches at the UCSB Asics Invitational.
➜ He hit .484 (20-5-31) during the UCSB Asics Invitational, with seven kills apiece against Princeton and NJIT, and six more versus Saint Francis (PA).
