After North Carolina had a strong bounce-back week, Taylor Leath saw some positive repercussions as she was awarded the latest ACC Volleyball Player of the Week award.
After an 0-4 start that pushed North Carolina from preseason top-10 to unranked, the Tar Heels got back on the right track with a pair of wins. Over the span of the two matches, Leath recorded 43 kills (6.14 per set) while hitting .360 and added 18 digs and three blocks. In North Carolina’s biggest victory that gave LSU its first loss of the year, Leath racked up 27 kills in four sets.
Sure enough, adding to the ACC’s weekly awards is Payton Schwantz, a freshman from North Carolina’s nearby rival Duke.
Schwantz takes home the ACC Freshman of the Week award with helping Duke to an undefeated week, including a win against (RV) TCU. The first-year outside hitter posted double-digit kill marks in all three matches of play and tacked on another 17 digs and six blocks en route to All-Tournament honors at the Fight in the Fort at TCU.
