2017 USA Girls’ 18s Junior National Championships

The USA Volleyball Girls’ 18s Junior National Championships will be held at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas from April 21-23. The tournament will bring in 260 of the best teams in the country who are vying for the top prize of club volleyball.

The approximately 2,600 18’s athletes will play in just the second year of the tournament being held at a standalone from the other Junior National Championships. The reason for the move-up for the 18’s level, is so that the athletes that are moving onto college that fall have the opportunity to partake in the championships before having to report for school.

The other age levels, 11-and-under to 17-and-under will be held in Minneapolis later this summer.

In the premier 18 Open Division there will be 36 teams competing for the top spot. The Open Division in club volleyball is the highest level of play. These 36 squads earned their rights to play in the Junior National Championship as they qualified at one of the 16 national qualifiers held across the country beginning in January.

The two other qualifying divisions are 18 USA and 18 American Divisions that will hold 48 and 64 teams, respectively, who earned their spot through national qualifiers.

The final two divisions of play will be 18 National that will host 48 teams, who made their way to the tournament through USA Volleyball Regional Volleyball Association championship events, at-large bids and re-allocation spots. The 18 Patriot Division is a 64 team field that is allocated for clubs that elected to have a season-ending tournament without having to qualify for the event.

13 of the 16 national qualifiers saw different winners with three teams winning more than one tournament:

  • Top Select 18 Elite Blake – Florida Region – Ohio Valley 18s Qualifier and Mideast Qualifier
  • Skyline 18 Royal – North Texas Region – NEQ and Pacific Northwest Qualifiers
  • A4 Volley 18 Purple – Southern California Region – Golden State National Qualifier and SCVA Junior National Qualifier

Last year’s Open Division winners, Minnesota Select Volleyball Club, took the Northern Lights Qualifier this year and will look to defend their title.

Other defending champions:

  • USA Division – Houston Juniors
  • National Division – Mavericks 900 18 Black
  • American Division – Xcel 18X Select
  • Patriot Division – Michio Chicago Volleyball Academy

From the USA Division Topeka Impact 18-1 is the only club to win two national qualifiers this season – KC Martin Luther King Day Tournament and the Mideast Qualifier.
