After sweeping their home tournament this past week, the LSU beach volleyball team has been named the VolleyMob National Beach Team of the Week.

The Tigers improved to 6-5 after the 4-0 weekend at the Mango’s Beach Volleyball Club.

In the teams first match of the tournament, the Tigers were able to complete the sweep over Tulane 5-0. The #4 pair of Megan Davenport and Riley Young were able to rally back from a first set loss to take down Tarin Mergener and Annie Shurtz 2-1, (20-22, 21-12, 15-11). The #1, #5 and #6 pairs also fought through three set matches against Tulane.

In the second competition of the weekend, the Tigers took the 4-1 victory over #9 South Carolina, with the #2 position being the only team to drop a decision. Davenport and Young, playing in the #5 spot, were the only pair to take three sets to the Gamecocks, winning 2-1, (17-21, 21-18, 15-10).

Their toughest match of the Tiger Beach Challenge came to FIU. The #4 duo of Cati Leak and Maddie Ligon started things off for the Tigers with an easy two set sweep 2-0, (21-13, 21-13) over Natalia Giron and Lina Bernier. The #5 pair dropped the second match to tie the match at 1-1. Katie Lindelow and Olivia Powers brought LSU to a 2-1 lead, but FIU kept fighting, taking the #2 pair in straight sets.

With the match tied at 2-2, LSU was counting on the #1 pair of Claire Coppola and Kristen Nuss to bring home the victory. The duo took three sets 2-1 (21-18, 21-23, 15-12) to finish the match 3-2 for the Tigers.

Rounding off their perfect weekend was a 4-1 victory over North Florida. Every team completed their match in straight sets, with the squads only loss coming from the #2 side.

The Tigers will return to action this coming weekend at the Horned Frog Challenge at the TCU Courts in Fort Worth, Texas.
