Wichita State emerged the victor, 3-2, in an all-out American Athletic Conference-opening matchup with Tulane. Youth sustained the Shockers, as freshman Megan Taflinger tallied career-highs with 17 kills and 13 digs to key the win.

Tulane outhit Wichita State, .175 to .152, and held the blocking edge, 12 to 8, but 12 service and 29 attack errors doomed the Green Wave.
The Shockers pulled ahead 8-3 in the first set and never faltered en route to its 25-18 opening win.
The Green Wave responded with a strong start of their own in the second set, jumping ahead 4-0. Tulane led by as much as 8 and never let up to even the match with a 25-17 win.
In the third set, the Shockers used a 6-0 rally to provide a cushion, 21-9, and withstood a late push by the Green Wave to secure the 25-17 victory.
Tulane used a 6-1 stretch in the fourth set to establish a 10-6 lead. From there, the Green Wave remained in control and forced a fifth set with a 25-19 win.
After falling behind 5-1, Wichita State stormed back to knot the score, 5-all, in the fifth set. Five additional ties followed before the Shockers notched 4 of the final 5 points to close out the match with a 15-12 victory.

Tabitha Brown (11 kills) joined Taflinger in double figures for the Shockers. Kali Eaken posted 29 assists, Abby Pugh notched 5 blocks and Giorgia Civita logged 27 digs.
Erika Hansel (16 kills) and Lexi Douglas (14 kills) led the way for Tulane offensively. Taylor Henigsman contributed 26 assists, while Kaylie McHugh recorded 16 digs.
