Senior Emily Hiebert became the fourth player in Wichita State history to clear the 4,000 assist barrier after she connected on her 4,000th career assist on September 9 against Cal Poly.

In total, Hiebert now has 4,030 career assists as she joined Mary Elizabeth Hooper (4,820), Michele Hallagin (4,476) and Kori Rosenkranz (4,313). This may not be the only time she gets brought up with that trio as well, as Hiebert is actually on pace to become the school’s all-time assist leader – and she might even have a shot at being the first to 5,000.

In 2017 through nine matches, Hiebert is averaging 9.97 assists per set. The Shockers have 22 matches left (not even including postseason). Based on the fact that the minimum amount of sets played for those 22 would be 66 sets, that would give Hiebert 658 more assists and would put her second all-time. Again though, that’s without extra sets being played or postseason matches.

The 6’0″ setter for Wichita State has been a mainstay in a Shockers lineup that consistently pushes to make postseason runs, and this year has started no different for a 7-2 Wichita State team on the cusp of being ranked in the latest VolleyMob Top 25.

Originally from Newton, Kansas, Hiebert came into the Wichita State program in 2013, but redshirted her first season. That allowed her to transition seamlessly into the lineup in 2014 as she took over starting duties – something that she has yet to relent in her career as a Shocker.

And with those three years of consistent starting action, Hiebert had logged 3,711 career assists coming into this season. In fact, she posted over 1,100 assists in each of her first three seasons with Wichita State. Her high-water mark came in 2015 when she netted 1,408 assists, although last season she notched her best assists per set mark at 10.64.

Hiebert’s next game action will come in a big one on Friday, September 15 as the Shockers host #7 Creighton at the Charles Koch Arena.
