The Wisconsin Badgers earned a commitment from recruit Izzy Ashburn. A 5’11” setter from Minnesota, Ashburn is a junior setter at Champlin Park High School and will join the team in 2019.

Originally from Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Ashburn totaled 1,181 assists last season. For her prep career thus far at Champlin Park High School, she has recorded just shy of 2,000 assists, averaging 9.7 assists per set.

“When I got done with the Wisconsin camp, it was just a feeling,” Ashburn told the Wisconsin State Journal in regards to the commitment. “The culture of the program is just so amazing and what the girls have together. I just really wanted to be a part of that. The coaching style is the style I want to be around and it’s the people I want to be around.”

The move will have her join the Badgers with high school teammate Sydney Hilley, who is joining Wisconsin this season, in a few years.

Sydney Hilley is one of the best players I’ve ever gotten the chance to play with and has been the best mentor I’ve ever been around,” Ashburn added in the Wisconsin State Journal’s story. “She is an amazing teammate and friend off the court. Throughout the recruiting process, even before I was considering Wisconsin, Sydney was always the go-to person about recruiting and what I should be looking at and thinking about. She gives the best advice I’ve ever received.”

Wisconsin currently has two setters on its 2017 roster. Mallory Dixon will be a senior in the 2019 season, while Hilley will be a junior come Ashburn’s time in Madison. Wisconsin advanced to the Elite Eight last season behind a 28-5 season (17-3 Big Ten). It was their fourth straight season making it to at least the Regional Semifinal round.
