In a four set match, ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle defended their Polish men’s PlusLiga title with a win over PGE Skra Belchatow. In a comeback win, ZAKSA took a 3-1, (21-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-18) victory in front of a nearly sold out crowd of 3,500 fans.
In the first meet up of the teams in the finals, ZAKSA took down Belchatow in straight sets with the second straight victory sealing the deal.
Setter Benjamin Toniutti earned the MVP award, with Dawid Konarski and Mateusz Bienek putting down 12 points each and another 11 points from Sam Deroo. The top scorer of the match came from Belchatow’s side with Mariusz Wlazly scoring 16 points.
The win marks the fifth title that ZAKSA has won since the induction on the Polish Volleyball League and the seventh title overall.
With the win, ZAKSA earned an automatic bid to the 2017 FIVB Club World Championships in Poland this December.
Joining them for the tournament is:
- Sarmayeh Bank Tehran (Asian champions)
- Sada Cruzeiro Contagem (South American champions)
The winners of the European Champions League will also qualify with two more tickets going to the league champions of the top two countries in the FIVB World Rankings and another two wild card draws will be awarded.
