#1 Trinity Western Looks To Reclaim Canadian National Title

2017 USports National Championships

Trinity Western is heading into the national championships as the favorites and are looking to defend their USports Mens’ Volleyball title.

This years championships will be held at Saville Community Sports Centre at the University of Alberta, the first time the event has been held in Alberta since 2009.

The top eight teams (in order) for this years tournament are: Trinity Western Spartans, Manitoba Bisons, UBC Thunderbirds, Laval Rouge er Or, McMaster Marauders, UNB Varsity Reds, Alberta Golden Bears and Waterloo Warriors.

The Canada West Champions, Trinity West look to earn their programs seventh national title. The team is led by Ryan Sclater who averages 4.29 kills/set. OUA champions, McMaster is looking to make a comeback after a bit of a slump year and finishing as runner-up last season. The two-time defending AUS champions, UNB have made it to the championships back-to-back years for the first time since 1979.

Friday, March 17

  • 1:00 p.m. Trinity Western vs. Waterloo
  • 2:30 p.m. Laval vs. McMaster
  • 6:30 p.m. Manitoba vs. Alberta (hosts)
  • 8:00 p.m. UBC vs. UNB

Saturday, March 18

  • 1:00 p.m. Consolation #1: Loser QF #1 vs. Loser QF #2
  • 2:30 p.m. Consolation #2: Loser QF #3 vs. Loser QF #4
  • 6:30 p.m. Semifinal #1: Winner QF #1 vs. Winner QF #2
  • 8:00 p.m. Semifinal #2: Winner QF #3 vs. Winner QF #4

Sunday, March 19

  • 12:00 p.m. 5th place
  • 3:00 p.m. Bronze medal
  • 6:00 p.m. Championship final
