Former East Carolina volleyball player I’Tiana Taylor signed a contract on Tuesday to begin her professional career in Dubai with the Sharjah Ladies Club. Taylor played one season with the East Carolina volleyball team in 2016 to finish out her NCAA eligibility after 2 seasons as a member of the school’s basketball program. Her first two years of college were spent at Weatherford College, playing basketball.

The Pflugerville, Texas native lettered in basketball, volleyball and track in high school and chose to focus on volleyball in her first 4 seasons of college. She took advantage of an NCAA rule in 2016 that allowed her to switch sports and have an extra year of eligibility, and in spite of being a one-year player had a massive impact upon the Pirates’ program.

In that one season, she had an immediate and distinct impact on the team. She started 25 of the team’s 30 games and led the team in kills (292), kills/set (2.78), and also had 51 blocks on the season. The 6’1″ outside hitter had double digit kills in 16 games, including 17 against Memphis on October 7th and 13 in just 16 attacks (.750 hitting percentage) against Savannah State on September 4th.

In her one season, ECU finished 15-15, which was their-first non-losing season since 2006. That included a season-opening 10 game winning streak that was the longest streak in school history.
