#1 USC remains dominate with two victories over #4 Florida State (3-2) and Nebraska (5-0), extending their overall winning streak to 36 and marking a 6-0 record in 2017.
Clinching the 3-2 win over Florida State was USC’s #1 senior duo of Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes, who earned their 79th consecutive win. The pair took down the Seminoles with ease, posting scores of 21-14 and 21-15. The #4 and #5 pairs were also successful for the Women of Troy, with Abril Bustamente and Joy Dennis winning in straight sets 21-18, 24-22, while Jenna Belton and Jo Kremer had a tougher go-around with a three set match, 21-13, 15-21, 16-14.
The Women of Troy also collected their with 5-0 sweep over a team against Nebraska, not dropping a single set in the overall sweep.
#2 Pepperdine was able to take two victories on Thursday, as well, taking down #6 Long Beach State (3-2) and Loyola Marymount (5-0). The #2, #3 and #4 pairs for the Wave were the leading factors in the 3-2 win, while every pair was able to help take down Loyola.
Cal Poly split their Thursday matches, losing to TCU (3-2) and sweeping Benedictine (5-0), who also dropped a match to TCU (5-0), struggling against the Division I matchup.
