With the program’s most successful season to date in their back pockets, the women of Tulane beach volleyball open the 2017 season on Saturday, March 4 eager to build on last year’s accomplishments. Coming in at No. 14 in the DiG Volleyball Preseason Poll and No. 15 according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association, Tulane will kick off its sixth season at the Blazer Duals in Birmingham, Alabama, a tournament hosted by fellow Coastal Collegiate Sports Association member school UAB at the West Campus Athletic Complex.
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT
Seven schools, including Tulane, will open the 2017 beach season in Birmingham, with Mercer and New Orleans being the only two opponents the Green Wave will not face.
Tulane will play four matches on the weekend, kicking off the season on Saturday with a noon contest against Jacksonville State. The Green Wave will then take on conference foe UAB at 4:00 p.m. to close out the day.
The Blazer Duals continue on Sunday morning, as Tulane takes on Austin Peay at 8:00 a.m. to start things off on day two in Birmingham. The Green Wave wrap up their first tournament of the season with a 1:00 p.m. match against in-state foe UL-Monroe.
The Green Wave lead the all-time series with UAB 7-4, including a pair of match sweeps last season on March 13 and April 16. Tulane trails ULM 1-3 in the teams’ series history, while the Green Wave will match up with Jacksonville State and Austin Peay for the first time this weekend.
