#2 Florida State Beach Travels Cross-Country For West Coast Matches

Coming off a dominating performance in DeLand, Fla., last week, the No. 2-ranked Florida State beach volleyball team begins its West Coast swing in California before the Noles will head to Hawaii.

FSU (2-0) opened the season with wins over No. 10 LSU and No. 9 Stetson.

In California, the Noles will play in four total matches, three against teams ranked in the Top 10 including No. 6 Long Beach State (4-0), Cal Poly (2-4), No. 3 Pepperdine (1-1) and No. 4 UCLA (2-2) at the East Meets West Invitational in Manhattan Beach, Calif. Florida State will face Long Beach State (12 p.m. ET) and Cal Poly (5 p.m. ET)on Saturday and then will meet Pepperdine (3 p.m. ET) and UCLA (6 p.m. ET) on Sunday.

The Seminoles will be playing Long Beach State for the eighth time. The Garnet and Gold have won each of the last three meetings against the 49ers after falling in the first four matches. Florida State has not lost to UCLA, holding a 5-0 record against the Bruins. The last time FSU and UCLA met was last season in Gulf Shores, Ala., as the Seminoles defeated the Bruins 3-1 In the National Championship Semifinals. FSU will be looking to gain their first win against Pepperdine. The Noles are winless against the Waves in five meetings.

In the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, Florida State maintained its No. 2 ranking. This marks the sixth time the Noles have been ranked No. 2 in the AVCA Coaches Poll and the fourth week in a row dating back to last season. The Seminoles rank No. 2 in the DiG magazine as well; up one sport from their No. 3 ranking a week ago in the preseason poll.
