The 2nd-ranked Pepperdine beach volleyball program extended this season’s overall record to 10-1 with a pair of 5-0 sweeps over Colorado Mesa and Cal State Northridge this Thursday afternoon at the CSUN Beach Volleyball Facility.
The Waves dominated the sand, collecting 12 two-set victories on all six courts played throughout each match. The commanding play began with the Mavericks in three-set format.
No. 2-pair, graduate student Brittany Howard (Mountain View, Calif./Mountain View HS/Stanford) and junior Corinne Quiggle (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra HS) collected the first win on the day with a 21-5, 21-9 victory over Erin Perez and Megan Gianinetti.
Then, Waves’ No. 4-duo, sophomore Anika Wilson (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos HS) and freshman Deahna Kraft (Seattle, Wash./Garfield HS) bested Hana Peterman and Kricket Adleman with a 21-11, 21-13 win.
Sophomore Kaity Bailey (Ojai, Calif./Villanova Preparatory School) and freshman Gigi Hernandez (Dana Point, Calif./JSerra Catholic HS) clinched the first match of the day with a 21-14, 21-5 victory on court five over Samantha Ritter and Katie Scherr in the second wave of competition.
Then, on court one, senior Delaney Knudsen (Valencia, Calif./Valencia HS) and sophomore Madalyn Roh (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral HS) defeated Taylor Woods and Abby Ney with a 21-17, 21-5 result.
Pepperdine’s No. 3-pair Skylar Caputo (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) and Heidi Dyer (San Clemente, Calif./Saddleback Valley Christian HS) finished out the first match with a 21-4, 21-11 win over MacKenzie Edwards and Hattie Gianinetti.
Senior Sarah Seiber (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic HS/Arizona) and graduate student Katty Workman (Thousand Oaks, Calif./La Reina HS/Boston College) also competed on court six in an exhibition match-up against Natalie Todd and Hailey Crane, picking up a 21-16, 21-8 victory.
The winning ways continued in the 5-0 win over CSUN. First, Wilson and Kraft downed Kristey Markle and Autumn Russell with a 21-11, 21-17 win on court four. Then, Howard and Quiggle put down Maddie Leiphardt and Nicki Williams with a 21-16, 21-17 victory on court two to put the Waves in clinching territory heading into the second wave.
Bailey and Hernandez clinched the match for the second time in the day after securing a 21-9, 21-11 win over Nico Stork and Nicolette Pinkney.
Caputo and Dyer also downed Aeryn Owens and Erin Indermill with a 21-12, 21-16 mark and Roh and Knudsen bested Julie Haake and Saktie Sato with a 21-8, 21-14 result to end the day with the second clean sweep.
Graduate student Tiffany Morales (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Redondo Union HS/Michigan) and sophomore Nikki Lyons (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS) also competed on the exhibition court six, putting down Daniella Molinari and Cassidy Rosso 21-10 and 21-11.
