2018 Commonwealth Games Beach Tournament Set To Debut On April 6

The 2018 Commonwealth Games are set to begin on April 6 for beach volleyball and run through April 12 when the gold medal matches commence. The competition is set to take place on Coolangatta Beach in Gold Coast, Australia.

This will be the first time that the Commonwealth Games will host a beach volleyball tournament. With this, some of the top teams from around the world will take part in the competition, with Canada and Australia being the teams to beat.

From Canada, Sarah Pavan/Melissa Humana-Paredes will represent the women’s side of the tournament while Sam Pedlow/Sam Schachter will look to take gold on the men’s side. Pavan/Humana-Paredes have had a lot of success as a pairing since first teaming up at the end of 2016. Since then, the duo has placed in the top-10 of every FIVB World Tour event they have taken part in. On the men’s side, Pedlow/Schachter have also had a successful run together, as they have placed in the top-10 of FIVB World Tour events, as well.

Out of Australia, Mariafe Artacho del Solar/Taliqua Clancy will make a splash at the Games for the women. Since pairing up in October 2017, the duo has remained undefeated in the Asian and FIVB World Tours. The team was hit was an injury scare to Clancy back in January prior to the South Australia Open but she has since recovered.

In total, there are 12 countries for each gender that will participate in the Games with the tournament starting with the teams split into three pools of four.
