3 Teams Finish With Perfect Records At Asian Men’s Club Championship

SMM 2017 ASIAN MEN’S CLUB VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The final day of preliminary play has concluded at the Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championships in Ninh Binh, Vietnam.

From Pool A, Vietnam Sports Club and Al-Bahri SC will move on to the final eight of the competition while in Pool B, both Bank Sarmayeh and Taichung Commercial Bank move on, being the only teams that competed in the pool.

Pool C will see Altay VC and Al-Arabi moving on in the competition with Pool D’s Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza and Beijing Baic Motor advancing to the final eight.

Pool A

  • Vietnam Sports Club def. Sri Lanka Authority 3-1, (25-19, 17-25, 26-24, 25-20)

The hosts of the competition finished their two days of play with a four-set win over Sri Lanka, securing their place in the final eight of the competition.

Pool C

  • Altay VC def. Al Arabi Sports Club 3-0, (27-25, 26-24, 25-22)

Altay completed the perfect sweep in matches for the weekend with a win over Al Arabi in straight sets. The win moves them on to the final eight teams in the tournament which is set to begin on July 2.

“Al Arabi Sports Club is a strong team with many good players, but today they had some problems. It was not their best day. I am quite satisfied with my team’s performance,” said Altay VC’s head coach Rafail Gilyazutdinov.

  • Yan Chai def. Canberra Heat 3-2, (25-18. 10-25, 18-25, 29-27, 15-10)

Yan Chai went up early in the match with a first set win, but faltered in the next two, going down 1-2 in the match. They fought tooth and nail in the fourth set the stay alive, forcing a fifth and deciding set with a 29-27 fourth set win. The final set went in the way of Yan Chai, winning the set and match 15-10.

Canberra Heat’s Matthew Aubrey couldn’t help the team win, despite his match-best 24 points.

Pool D

  • Air Force def. Maldivian Sports & Recreation Club 3-0, (25-15, 25-15, 25-21)

Air Force finished their Pool D performance with a comfortable win over the Maldives. Despite the win on their final day of pool play, they will not move onward to the final eight teams but will be moved to the 9th-13th classification round.

  • Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza def. Beijing Baic Motor 3-0, (25-19, 25-15, 25-19)

Toyoda completed their three days of play with a quick three-set victory over Beijing.
