35th FIVB World Congress Workshop

  • Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • October 4-6

The 35th FIVB World Congress workshop is meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina October 4-6. The opening speaker at the development workshop was FIVB President Dr. Ary Graca, who called on the participants to actively join the global volleyball family’s conversation.

The workshop will be focused around the importance of sustainable management, communications and the FIVB’s VolleyYourWay movement in helping to grow volleyball around the world.

VolleyYourWay Festival

Just days before the workshop took place, hundreds of young volleyball players gathered at the Gorki Grana Sports Centre in Moron, a metropolitan area of the Greater Buenos Aires area on October 1. The players participated in in the VolleyYourWay Festival, which was organized by the FIVB World Congress.

Along with playing, there was a variety of musical, artistic and educational activities between games. The development of players is the FIVB’s vision to making volleyball the number one family sport entertainment in the world.

Never Give Up – Brazilian Legend Tells Federations

Among the many topics and speakers at the workshop, Brazilian legend Gilberto Amauri de Godoy Filho, or Giba, spoke about not giving up, and showing the world what volleyball is.

“Show the people what volleyball is, what joy it brings. Seeing kids smile is amazing.” said Giba in his inspirational speech to the National Federations of the world at the FIVB World Congress Workshop.

Giba has recently taken a position as president of the newly formed FIVB Athletes’ Commission. He is hoping to take a more active role in the FIVB’s decision making process with this new position.

Closing of Day One

“I stand here very proud,” said President Graca when addressing the closing remarks of the workshop, “My mandate has been based on innovation and opportunities and today is a perfect example of this.”

Wednesday holds the start of the first day of the two day elective Congress where FIVB President Graca runs unopposed.

Re-elected

Dr. Graca was re-elected as President of the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB). He was first elected in 2012 at the World Congress in Anaheim, USA. He stood unopposed for the re-election period from 2016-2024, receiving unanimous support for his candidacy from the five FIVB Continental Confederations.

Closing the congress, Dr. Graca said, “As I have said many times, we are in the gold era for volleyball. London 2012 and Rio 2016 were huge. But they are history already. Let’s now build the future: the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Austria in 2017, the Volleyball World Championships in 2018.”

He continued to say, “We will write history again in these three World Championships. And then we will have what I expect will be the most innovative and technological Olympic Games ever, in Tokyo 2020.”
