Maritza Plovdiv continued its demolishing seasons-long run through the Bulgarian Championship by claiming its 4th consecutive national title. In doing so, along the way, it brought its winning streak in the tournament to 57 victories in a row. This edition’s victim was Levski Sofia, who fell in two games, the last in 3-0 (25-13, 27-25, 25-23). With the title win, Maritza earned the right to represent Bulgaria at the 2018-19 Cev Champions league. Here is how coach Ivan Petkov reacted (Cev.lu):
“This was definitely a fantastic season for us. What we achieved in the Champions League, reaching the pool stage and playing against big names, and the public interest we managed to attract, deserves a lot of respect. It would not have happened without the support of our president Iliya Dinkov and our club partners. Next season we have to continue building upon what we have achieved so far.”
Maritza‘s setter and Bulgarian national teamer Lora Kitipov also commented on the title, her first with the team (Sportal.bg):
“This year we have won a lot of and we have experienced many exciting moments. We played at CEV Champions League, won the Bulgarian Cup, and now the domestic title. All of this is great, to win in your home country is very sweet. My parents are here, it is very pleasant to triumph with the title.”
