#8 Arizona Beats Cal in 3-2 Nailbiter to Move to 14-8 (4/21 Scoreboard)

The 8th-ranked Arizona Wildcats kept their NCAA tournament dreams alive with a 3-2 win over conference rivals Stanford on Friday. That moves the team to 14-8 on the season, with their #1 line (the Witt twins) and #3 line (Hailey Devlin and Sam Manley) holding matching 16-6 recordss to lead the team individually.

The heroes of the day were Olivia Macdonald and Olivia Hallaran at the 2 line. The teams split the 4 and 5 spots to open the match, then the Witt twins beat Stanford freshmen Kathryn Plummer/Jenna Gray (21-11, 21-18) to put the Wildcats ahead.

Stanford’s 3-line of Morgan Hentz and Caitlin Keefe evened the day up at 2 wins each, leaving the Olivia’s at the 2 line against Ivana Vanjak/Payton Chang of Stanford to finish the day.

Vanjak/Chang started by winning the first set 21-18, but then Arizona’s pair won 21-19, 21-19 in the last two sets, the slimmest allowable margins, to take the day for the Wildcats.

Arizona plays Cal on Saturday in their senior match as the senior class’ last home game of their careers. Cal went 0-2 on Friday, including an upset at the hands of New Mexico
