Chris Matsui Joins Pitt as Volunteer Assistant

Chris Matsui has traveled across the country from his home state of Hawaii and landed a spot on the Pitt volleyball team staff where he was recently named the volunteer assistant by head coach Dan Fisher.

The Kailua, Hawaii native has experience coaching at the high school level where he was the head coach of Maryknoll High School’s boys junior varsity team as well as the assistant coach to their varsity team.

He returned to his former club, Kuikahi Volleyball Club, where he assisted with their 14’s team that earned an bid to the Open Division at the Boys Junior National Championships in Columbus, Ohio.

Matsui played at Concordia-Irvine where he was part of the NAIA National Championship team in 2013 under head coach Trevor Johnson. The following season his team were the NAIA runners-up going 28-8. Prior to his career at CUI, he spent one season at Pacific.

Pittsburgh is coming off a trip to the second round of the NCAA tournament and will open the season in Seattle, Washington on August 25th where they will face top-15 teams Creighton and Washington.
