The Belgium team is out in Ganja, Azerbaijan ready to compete in the 2017 CEV Women’s European Championships.
The team recently faced some disappointment in not qualifying for the World Championships, but the team’s coach Gert van de Broek has said that the teams level of intensity has been high when preparing for the European Championships. He is positive that his team is stronger and more prepared for this competition than they were three weeks ago at the World Championship qualification matches.
Van de Broek commented that the team’s pool (Pool D), which includes themselves, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Serbia is a difficult group to be in. The top two contenders for the title of the European Championships are in Pool D, says van de Broek, as they are the outstanding favorites – the Netherlands and Serbia.
Van de Broek is looking at his team’s match against the Czech Republic as their most important going forward, as it will be the match that could determine if they advance further in the tournament or not.
The Belgium squad had a rough go-around at this years FIVB World Grand Prix, as they took 12th place overall in Group 1 with a 0-9 record, winning only six sets in nine matches. The team was led by Kaja Grobelna with 129 points in the competition on 105 kills, 17 blocks and seven aces.
