The second round of playoff matches begins with Poland taking on Turkey, with the winner advancing on to the quarterfinals while the loser will go home.

Poland finished pool play with a 2-1 record, winning against Germany in five and Hungary in four. Their lone loss came against the host, Azerbaijan in three sets. Malwina Smarzek is the scoring front-runner of the competition, putting down 78 points in three matches. Agnieszka Kakolewski is the next best scorer for the team with 36 points. The Poles will have to spread out their output more in order to make it further into the competition, but Smarzek will also have to stay on fire.

For Turkey, Neriman Ozsoy leads the team with 61 points scored so far, followed by Eda Erdem Dundar with 42. Turkey finished with a 1-2 record in pool play, winning just their last match against the Ukraine, which kept them in the competition for another match. They lost to Russia on day one followed by Bulgaria on day two.
