Washington has added an experienced and accomplished assistant coach to their bench for the 2018 season after hiring Jason Mansfield.

This will not be Mansfield’s first time in the Pac-12 as he spent 14 seasons coaching at Stanford before heading to Illinois for the past 2 seasons. His first coaching venture was with Stanford in 2002 as a volunteer assistant and was promoted to full-time assistant coach in 2004, helping the Cardinals to the NCAA title that year. With the Cardinals, Mansfield helped the squad to 6 Final Four appearances and 7 Pac-12 titles. With Illinois, Mansfield helped the Fighting Illini to the Sweet 16 round in 2017 and an upset over Washington in the second round of the tournament.

Across both teams, Mansfield has been a coach to 20 All-Americans, 4 National Players of the Year and three eventual Olympians.

In addition to his collegiate coaching status, Mansfield also coached for Vision Volleyball Club from 2000-16 with his teams winning 7 Junior Olympic medals and 26 Junior Olympic All-Tournament selections.

“I’ve always had so much respect for how hard the Huskies play, the fire they play with and how consistent they are at competing. I’m passionate about teaching the game of volleyball and strive to help each student-athlete grow as a person and as a player. My family and I are very excited to get back to the West Coast and I look forward to competing again in the Pac-12 Conference,” said Mansfield to UW Athletics.

In 2017, Washington went 25-8 overall and 14-6 in the Pac-12. The Huskies made the NCAA Tournament, defeating LIU Brooklyn in the first round before falling to Illinois in the second round.
