Wilfredo Leon In Perugia Jersey April Fools Joke Or Truth?

0 Carly DeMarque | April 03rd, 2018 | Italian League, News, Pro Indoor

It was a day for jokes around the world, as April Fools Day dawned on us this year, but one has us really thinking – Wilfredo Leon’s Instagram post with him in a Sir Safety Conad Perugia jersey.

On his Instagram account, Leon posted a photo of himself in a Perugia uniform, speculating as to whether or not the photo was the truth or an April Fools joke. Now, this normally wouldn’t spark too much attention in our eyes, but Leon recently announced that he will not renew his contract with Zenit Kazan for the 2018-19 season. This decision from Leon comes after French star and Azimut Modena player, Earvin Ngapeth announced that he will be joining the team for the coming season.

Leon is deemed as one of the best volleyball players in the world, with his decision to leave the team being one that could potentially impact the club for years to come – though Ngapeth will be a bright spark for the team in Leon’s absence. Perugia has been a club that has been named that Leon could potentially head to following his disappearance from Zenit Kazan.

So… What do you think? Is it true or it’s just April’s fools day joke?? Somebody from Perugia likes Cuban rhythms? “Guantanamera, guajira guantanamera…”???

This season, Perugia topped the Italian Men’s League with a 23-3 overall record, giving them the #1 seed going into the playoffs. They took down Bunge Ravenna in the quarterfinals and are currently tied with Diatec Trentino 1-1 in the best-of-three series in the semifinals. On top of their Italian League duties this season, Perugia has been a strong fixture in the 2018 CEV Champions League, making it to the Playoffs 6 where they will square off against Lokomotiv Novosibirsk in a two-match series.

The addition of Leon to the Perugia squad would further intensify the team for the following season, giving them a real shot of running the domestic and international competition show for years to come.
