Class of 2019 setter Kevin Kauling is currently committed to the Lewis men’s volleyball program. A 6’8″ setter, Kauling committed to the program last July, where his allegiance still currently remains. He would join the program for the 2020 season.
Kauling was recently named to the United States Boys’ Youth National Training Team, as he will look to make the cut for the squad competing at the NORCECA U19 Continental Championship.
A current junior at Neuqua Valley High School in Illinois, Kauling pushed his team to a 27-7 finish. Individually, according to his MaxPreps profile, he recorded 590 assists (9.5 per set), 113 digs (1.8 per set), 99 kills (1.6 per set) on a .446 clip, 72 aces (1.2 per set) and 59 blocks (1.0 per set). His performance was enough for him to earn a spot on the DuPage County All-Area boys volleyball team.
On the club circuit, Sports Performance Boys Volleyball Club adds to Kauling’s play on the prep level. With the club, he plays with the 18 Elite team and owns an 8’8″ standing reach and 11’2″ vertical jump.
Kauling also joins another class of 2019 commit that has been registered in the VolleyMob Recruiting Database in outside hitter/opposite Jared Phelan. It also adds to a bit of a pipeline for Lewis with Sports Performance Volleyball Club, as 2018 VolleyMob All-Freshman team-er and honorable mention pick (respectively) Tyler Mitchem and TJ Murray along with soon-to-be-senior and 2018 All-MIVA libero Michael Simmons all came through the club.
Lewis finished the 2018 season at 19-11 overall and 9-5 in the MIVA, as they ended up in the top 10 of both the VolleyMob Men’s Top 20 and AVCA Coaches Poll. They had two setters on their most recent season’s roster. Of that pair, both are on pace to return for 2019, though starting setter Matt Yoshimoto will exhaust his eligibility prior to Kauling’s arrival in 2019-2020.
