In a moment of clairvoyance, the San Diego women’s volleyball team’s submission for the school’s end-of-year banquet lip-dub spectacular was a 90’s classic that just days later would become relevant again. Almost 20 years after the release of the Back Street Boys classic “I Want it That Way,” released in 1998 when about half the team was not yet born and the other half was not yet cognizant, the team used the submission as their official lip dub submission.
The moment was perfect, as its release to YouTube was 9 days before the Back Street Boys on May 17th officially released the first single from their new album: “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”
The San Diego women are ranked #25 in the 2018-2019 VolleyMob “Way Too Early” Pre-Season top-25 rankings after a 25-5 season last year and a win in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament. The team graduates AVCA Third-Team All-American setter Kristen Genebacher and AVCA Honorable Mention All-American Jayden Kennedy. They bring in transfer Cami May from Penn State to take over Kennedy’s role at setter.
The Torreros have not released their 2018 schedule yet.
