Finnish club Oriveden Ponnistus has just announced the the signing of University of Minnesota alumni Erica Handley to its roster. The 6’1″ setter, who earned All-Academic Big Ten honors during her senior season, will undergo her third professional campaign, after stints in Poland, with BKS, and France, with Nantes. She’ll be joined in her new team by former Nantes teammates Laura Pihlajamäki and Pauliina Vilpos as well.
Here is what she had to say to fans in the league’s official website:
“I am very excited about signing with OrPoon this season. I hope I can help bring a championship to the team. I am also excited to play with Apostolos and excellent athletes. Hopefully my experience with Laura and Pauliina will help to adapt to the team. I’m looking forward to seeing Orpo’s fans and playing for them.”
She also took to her personal Instagram page to celebrate the fact:
“Where am I going on my next volleyball adventure, you ask? Just the land of 100,000+ lakes, Santa Clause, Nokia cell phones, amazing views, and some great Vball. I can’t wait to see what FINLAND has in store for me this upcoming season! 🇫🇮”
During her time with Minnesota, Handley helped the team reach two national semifinals.
