After time in junior college at Feather River College, 5’10” middle blocker/outside hitter Cyan Blackdeer is headed to the Southern Miss women’s volleyball program for both beach and indoor. Blackdeer will be a junior come the fall with two years left of play. She is set to be immediately eligible.

At Feather River College in Quincy, California, Blackdeer was recently named a second-team All-American and first-team All-State pick to go with winning Golden Valley Conference MVP. That came for her sophomore season when she led the team to the CCCAA Elite Eight and a 25-5 record.

Individually she logged 462 kills on a .339 mark, 319 digs and 50 blocks. As a freshman she totaled 249 kills on a .304 clip, 76 digs and 51 blocks. She was also first-team All-Golden Valley Conference as a freshman to go with her second year.

A native of Parker, Colorado and an alumna of Legend High School, Blackdeer also played on the beach team at Feather River College. In 2017 she was a member of an undefeated Coast Conference Championship team that made the state final four. She also ranked sixth in the north and 11th in California individually with her partner as she was All-Coast Conference.

“Cyan brings experience to both our indoor and beach programs,” Southern Miss head coach Stephanie Radecki said in the team’s release of the transfer. “She is a versatile hitter and has the ball control to play six rotations. She also has a great court presence and personality.”

Indoors, Southern Miss is coming off of a 20-12 season in which they went 9-5 in the Conference USA. Blackdeer joins three middles and five outside hitters on the 2018 roster. In the sand, Southern Miss is making its debut in the spring of 2019.
