Toledo senior libero Maurissa Leonard officially became the school’s all-time leader in digs on Friday during the team’s opening match of the CEFCU Invitational in Peoria, Illinois. While Toledo wound up losing to George Washington 3-2, Leonard recorded 32 digs, which puts her 16 clear of Lora Sarich for the school’s all-time lead.
Leonard also holds Toledo’s single-match digs record, single-season record, single-season digs per set record, and the career digs per set record. At her current pace, Leonard should end her career with around 2,200 digs, though her 2018 pace of around 6.5 digs/set would push her closer to 2,300.
Lara Newberry at Chattanooga is the conference’s, and NCAA’s, all-time leader in digs with 3,176, done from 2005 through 2008.
