In the final match of the men’s Banco do Brasil Cup in Campinas, Funvic Taubate claimed the first title of the year in Brazil. Funvic Taubate swept their opponent, Sesi Sao Paulo 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 30-28).

We played two great games in the semifinals and in the finals,” said Eder Carbonera. “It was practically perfect, and everyone is to be congratulated!”

Sesi tried to hold onto the match in the third set, with Rio 2016 MVP Serginho picking up some great balls on defense, but Taubate held on to survive three set points. The match concluded off a key ace from Otavio Pinto. Sesi committed 18 costly, unforced errors in the match, consequently leading to their demise.

“I tried to forget everything that was happening and the score, and I focused on that moment to deliver a good serve,” said Taubate’s middle blocker, Pinto, after delivering the final point of the match.

In the semifinals, the defending cup holders and reigning Brazil, South America and FIVB club world champions Sada Cruzerio exited the competition. Cruzerio dropped an intense five set match to Sesi (23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 17-15), having gone up 2-0 in the match only to lose. With the loss, Cruzerio saw their 28-match winning streak come to a close. In Taubate’s semifinal match, they took down Final Four hosts Brasil Kirin 3-0 (28-22, 25-22, 25-19).
