After going through two head coaches in the past seven months, the Texas Woman’s University volleyball program finally hires their next head coach in Jeff Huebner.

Huebner comes in from Middle Tennessee where he was the interim head coach after being named the teams assistant coach in January 2016. Prior to Middle Tennessee, Huebner began his collegiate coaching career in 2011 with the College of Coastal Georgia. He ended his five year stretch with the team with a 121-54 record, including a 65-10 record in the final two seasons – leading the team to the Southern States Athletic Conference regular and postseason championships and led the team to the NAIA National Tournament in both 2014 and 2015.

In 2014, Huebner was named an AVCA Top 30 Coaches Under 30 recipient, the AVCA Region Coach of the Year and the Southern States Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.During his five years at Coastal Georgia, Huebner coached four All-Americans, 27 All-Conference team members and 22 consecutive weeks in the National Coaches Top-25 Poll.

As a player, Huebner earned Best Setter honors in the MIVA on two occasions at Illinois State.

Huebner replaces former head coach Shelly Barberee and interim head coach Jessica Beaner – each of which resigned their head coaching duties.

Last season, eight player on the team were hospitalized in August with rhabdomyolysis, a syndrome in which muscle tissue breaks down and enters the bloodstream. Because of the condition that most of the team was in, the team struggled to begin their season.

“Regardless of what happened last year, TWU is an amazing institution that has a long standing commitment to the success of the student-athletes, including the volleyball program,” said Huebner.

Last season, the Pioneers struggled with posting a record of 9-20, with nine freshmen helping to fill in the missing spots of the players recovering from rhabdomyolysis.
